Vaccinations

Felines (Cats)
AT RISK CONDITIONS:
  • Cats with free outdoor privileges
  • Cats with limited outdoor exposure, even if supervised
  • Cats that are ever boarded at a hospital or boarding facility
  • Cats that ever go to a groomer (even mobile groomers)
  • Cats that participate in or attend cat shows
  • Cats that are used for breeding
  • Cats that live in a house with a pet door, even if they do not venture outside
  • Cats whose owners work in a shelter or pet store
  • Cats whose owners ever take in "foster" animals looking for homes
  • Cats who are indoors, but in neighborhoods with outdoor roaming cats (saliva or urine contamination entering house by screened windows, or brought in by owner)

AVAILABLE VACCINES:

Rabies (Required Vaccine)
Kittens:
-- 1st vaccine at 12 weeks of age (or older)
-- Repeat in 1 year
Adults (after 1 year):
-- PureVax Rabies annually, or
-- Imrab 3 Rabies every 3 years
(Please ask your vet about which vaccine is appropriate for your cat)

FVRCP (Required Vaccine)
Kittens:
-- Vaccine starting at 6-8 weeks old
-- Vaccinate every 3-4 weeks until at least 12 weeks old
(generally 2-3 sets of vaccines)
-- Repeat in 1 year
Adults (after 1 year old)
-- Vaccinate every 3 years

FeLV = Feline leukemia (Recommended Vaccine)
Kittens:
-- Vaccinate starting at 6-8 weeks old
-- Vaccinate every 3-4 weeks until at least 12 weeks old
-- Repeat in 1 year
Adults:
-- Vaccinate annually

FIV = Feline AIDS (Not Recommended for all Cats)
Although this vaccine sounds tempting, it does have drawbacks. Please discuss this vaccine with your veterinarian, if you feel that your cat may be a candidate.

FIP (Not Recommended)

Feline Bordetella (Not Recommended)
This vaccine is not carried by Cheyenne West Animal Hospital


Canines (Dogs)
PUPPIES
5-6 weeks old Parvo Only
6-8 weeks old (P1) Distemper, Parvo, Hepatitis combo (DHPP), Bordetella (nasal)
9-12 weeks old (P2) Distemper, Parvo, Hepatitis combo (DHPP), Bordetella (injection)
12-16 weeks old (P3) Distemper, Parvo, Hepatitis combo (DHPP), Bordetella (injection), Rabies (1 year)

ADULTS
Distemper, Parvo combo (DHPP) Booster in 1 year then every 3 years
Rabies Booster in 1 year then every 3 years (including dogs who received initial vaccine as an adult)
Bordetella Injectable product once per year. (6 mo. nasal product for high risk pets (board frequently, at groomers frequently, go to dog parks often, show and breeding dogs)
Lyme Initially a 2-shot series 2-4 weeks apart, then booster annually


Ferrets

Distemper at 6-8 weeks, and repeat at 12-14 weeks, then annually.

Rabies at 12 weeks or older, then annually.
